HIPORGANICS.COM WEB LAUNCH: GREEN BUSINESSES GROWING DESPITE
ECONOMY
Two
local eco-friendly boutiques are joining forces to create the web’s largest
selection of organic children’s apparel, www.hiporganics.com.
The site will make organic cotton clothing and accessories, and eco-friendly
baby products such as chemical free bottles and pacifiers available to shoppers
all over the globe. Sunshine’s Hip Baby has been open in Natomas since 2005 and
features American made, European and organic apparel and accessories for
infants through children’s size 8. Wildflower Boutique, also in business since
2005, offers Midtown shoppers organic cotton clothing and accessories for women
as well as babies from 0-3 months up to 2T. Their joint venture will create a
truly comprehensive organics website able to offer a well-rounded shopping
experience for any parent looking for healthy baby products.
Both
boutiques have seen an increased demand for organic and other “green” children’s
products in the past three years and even in the midst of a shaky economy,
these “eco-preneurs” are optimistic about their growth. According to Hip Baby
owner Sunshine Cowgill, “A sustainable business model stands on its own despite
a troubled economy. Green businesses aren’t susceptible to things like under-priced
imports and the hidden costs of cheap manufacturing.” For the past several
years about 30%
of Sunshine’s apparel inventory was organic, but with the explosion of high
quality organic brands she hopes to bring her inventory to 80-90% organic by
the end of the year. Wildflower owner Emily Hays, an expert in organics who teaches a
class locally called “Raising an Organic Baby” points out, “In spite of what’s
happening with the economy, people will always need healthy products for their
babies. Now that people are becoming more aware of the hidden dangers in
children’s products, there’s even more of a demand.”
A
Web Launch Party will be hosted by Wildflower Boutique on Saturday, March 8th.
Proceeds from the party will benefit Healthy Child Healthy World, a non-profit organization helping millions of parents,
educators, health professionals, and the general public take action to create
healthy environments and embrace a green, non-toxic lifestyle.

Wildflower Boutique,
Sacramento’s
only “green” boutique, proves that there’s more to fashion than just looking
good. The fact that it takes 1/3lb. of toxic chemicals to grow one conventional
cotton Tshirt makes it hard to ignore the environmental and health impacts of
the fashion industry. Wildflower features clothing made of sustainable fabrics,
including organic cotton, bamboo, hemp and recycled-fibers, as well as
accessories and handcrafted fair trade jewelry from around the world. The
boutique has a beautiful selection of organic cotton baby clothing and
accessories, as well as non-toxic toys and bath products. Wildflower Boutique,
